For a Peaceful and Prosperous family

ARATURABA
Based on the principle that "Ignorance of law excuses no one, Restoration Burundi has launched a radio program called ARATURABA (law is our concern) to senzitize on law and regulatory texts. The majority of Burundians did not get an opportunity to learn about law leading them to confuse about their rights, obligations and their limits. This broadcast is produced in a studio. It is a purely technical program and only lawyers are invited to speak in it when it comes to explaining a given law. In order to start a new law, we identify which are relevant to the needs of the population and a session of discussion is organised for the stakeholders including Restobu, Lawyers and Media representatives. The topics which are discussed on including law on household and families, work, civil and criminal procedures, criminal code and the like. This program is broadcasted through 4 radio stations covering all the corners of the country as well as WhatsApp and the Youtube Channel Restobu Media.
After launching the program, many calls are received as feedback. These calls coming from all around the country are of people either expressing gratitude on how how the program is shedding light concerning law, while others ask for legal assistance. Restobu provides legal advice to the beneficiaries and, in partnership with lawyers, those who don't have means to pursue their cases
.
According to the report of the permanent commission on Justice and Human Rights in the National Assembly of Burundi, several prisons house three to seven times more prisoners than their initial capacity allows. This is due to prisoners who spend long periods in prisons without being heard, while others are released by the courts, but spend a long time in prisons because the decisions of the court were not implemented. It is in this respect that lawyers working Restobu intervene to release prisoners who are in accordance with law.
