MY BURUNDI

Peace clubs are an exchange platform, a structure within schools, in communities and in other places that bring people together with a permanent way for the transmission of the ideal peace values.
In 2017, Randebu introduced the club movement in secondary schools, want to supervise young people in terms of peacebuilding and social justice in their respective communities. Schools have an objectives to train students in key areas of the country, Restobubus based on the principle that says that a good education is the basis of development and that if you want to destroy a country you go through education. The Restobubi has introduced the movement of clubs into schools in order to bring effective supervision around biblical values with access to the ideal of peace to a better future. "In addition to the sciences and literary lessons they learn, we must add biblical values linked to personal transformation and to the company to help them effectively exercise the spots that will be assigned to them today and to come." Said-restaurant.

Each club has a committee of managers, which participate in the facilitation of weekly sessions made up of a president, a vice, secretary and a council however each club has a supervisor who has the role of training the managers of the peace clubs. The club meets once a week depending on the school calendar under the supervision of their coaches (a woman and a man per club). The supervisors are chosen from their educators to facilitate listening and psychological orientation of all kinds.
After the government's appeal from refugees in the crisis of 2015, some of them expressed the will to return voluntarily to the country but cases of land, politico-ethnic conflicts and other conflicts related to ethnic discrimination and policy have manifested themselves between returnees and the host community. Returned students feel uncomfortable in school or even prefer not to reintegrate school. Restobubus took the front in the contribution to the social reinstatement of repatriated through the creation of peace clubs in the secondary schools of Kirundo, one of the provinces with a high number of returnees. These clubs are to facilitate social reintegration and strengthening social cohesion in Burundi. These are made up of half of the members by returnees and non -repatriated. They meet themselves once a week. For the moment, we have a total of 15 clubs with an average of 30 members per club. The mainly developed themes are linked to the consolidation of peace, non-violence, reconciliation, gender inclusion and protection against abuse and sexual exploitation and the fight against abuse and drug trafficking .
These themes are:

  • Respect for human rights (human law)

  • The interior healing of trauma

  • The peaceful resolution of conflicts and reconciliation

  • Servant leadership and responsible citizenship

  • Early alert and response and conflict prevention

  • Promotion of non-violence and social cohesion

  • Protection of children against abuse and sexual exploitation

  • Awareness of abuse and drug trafficking

  • The principles of taking charge of victims of VBGs in schools and in the community.

  • The value of honest and responsibility

  • Well done work

  • The meaning of the common good

  • Environmental protection

  • Pacific cohabitation and fraternity.

Apart from these themes, there is a module filled with biblical values (the school of school supervision in the secondary schools partner of the Restobu) which are the subject of exchange between members of the club during the weekly meetings under supervision of their supervisors.

According to Randebu, clubs are considered to be nursery of future leaders in the country and we must prepare leaders who will be engines and catalysts for the development and well-being of our society.
