Restoration Burundi targets families which struggle to access basic needs to empower them so to attain holistic development. Families are grouped in development cells and Restoration Burundi is running 11 cells across the country. This cell is of kabamba and this is Mariam, the president of the cell.
Before Restoration Burundi had helped them to rent properties to plough and gave them seeds of tomato, beans, soybeans and maize. After having enormous tomato and maize harvest, they were able to feed their families and rent for themselves other properties without asking for Restobu’s support. With a capital of 300 000f, they cultivated rice which was harvested in late August when the new school year was about to start. Most of members have little school kids and some of them have dropped out of school due to lack of schools materials and hunger in their families. When school year is about to start many parents get troubled with sending kids to schools with all required materials. However, this year the situation has changed for members of this cell. This rice harvest which was immediately sold and shared among cell members, enabled these families to buy school materials for their children.
“We rented it at 300 000bif and we used our force to weed and God blessed us. We got 1.460. 000bif after harvesting. While we had missed copybooks for our kids, we got them, while we had missed their uniforms, we got them. Truly what you did is great. We got uniforms, copybooks, may the Lord bless you abundantly. We thank you very much on what you did for us.” Commented Mariam, the president of the cell standing near the property where rice was harvested.
Pascal, one of the cell members has 4 children. He was able to by school materials for his kids. "It was a serious problem when time for going back to school came. We couldn’t find neither copybooks nor uniforms. But after harvesting the rice, it was very advantageous because children came to find copybooks and uniforms. It helped us very much and we are thankful now. We felt extremely joyful. We give much thanks to those who did this work for us.” Commented Anitha, the wife of Pascal Pascal, who was also given a rabbit is joyful. He expects much from it. “In days ahead, it will help me find fertilizer, it will reproduce and I will be able to buy clothes for my kids as well as mine.” The cell of Kabamba didn’t stop by there but cultivated peanuts and maize.
With the capital of 350 000f, they expect much yields. “We rented also this property and planted maize and peanuts. We used a capital of 350 000bif. We see that if God blesses, we will have harvest worth 800 000bif and maize will be around 400 000bif.” Commented Mariam as she inspected plantations of the cell of which she is president. Restoration Burundi’s pride is to see these families who before could not access basic needs, reach the level where they can satisfy at least basic needs. This is a long way when doing it to families who lack almost everything. However, Restobu is committed to accompanying them to improve their living conditions.
