Dave is one of many students who were impacted by the teachings of the peace club which was created at his school and now is known as peacebuilder in her community thanks to how skillful he is when solving conflicts among his neighbors as well as his family.
His father got separated from his wife due to a conflict which rose in their household. Their eldest son died due to natural medicines he had taken while his father was away for evangelization because he was a gospel preacher. When he came back, he accused his wife of having done nothing to avoid that their son use that medicine which prompted his death. Her wife was taken by anger of being accused baselessly and quitted him. She went back to her parents’ and spent there 6 months while he had stayed with only his two remaining sons including Dave. Living without his wife troubled him. Dave, their son, who had learned about peaceful conflicts resolution and reconciliation in the peace club decided to take action to reunite his parents.
“He (Dave) told me: “ my father, calm down. Though my mother has left us, don’t fuel the situation. I promise to deal with this situation until we see her coming back because I have seen all the development of the situation” his father.
Dave advised his father on how to behave in such a situation and went to see his mother to advise her and asked her to come back as his father was fond of seeing his wife coming back.
“I was stunned when I saw my son coming to ask me to go back home whereas it was my husband who was supposed to do so. I asked myself: “Can our son reunite us.”
Fortunately, Dave finally found that even his mother was eager to come back after spending 6 months at her parents’. His father will never forget the joy he had when he saw his wife coming back after months away.“It was like wedding ceremonies when I saw her coming back. I feared she was coming just to visit us but they reassured me she’s completely back. Now, I am at peace with her. She takes my shoes and brushes them, I take hers and adjust them to her feet. Now, we are at peace.” Her mother recalled how Dave and his little brother along with their father prepared dinner for her to celebrate her coming back.
“They brought me back. They had prepared dinner. They told me: Come and eat and now everything has come to normal.”Finally, as everyone was amazed by the skills of Dave, he finally revealed that there is a peace club at his school which equips them with peaceful conflicts and reconciliation tools.
His father highly appreciates the teachings the peace club gave to Dave.“I can’t find words to thank those who taught Dave all that. The wisdom they have truly comes from God. They should keep teaching our children.” Said his father. Restoration Burundi is optimistic the future generation will be peaceful when more like Dave are trained to stand for peace in their community.
